My 23andMe Results
Here the long-awaited results. Pretty much as expected, with no major surprises. About 2/3rds Black, 1/4 White, 1/12th Asian. The only unexpected things are in my Asian ancestry. Apparently, contrary to what I have been told, I have no South Asian ancestry. Also, of my East Asian ancestry, half appears to be Southeast Asian, rather than Chinese. My Chinese component is relatively small.
Also, my paternal haplogroup is G-M342.
My maternal haplogroup is L2a-d.
What is the source of your ‘southeast Asian’ ancestry? Did Jamaica import any indentured workers from Asia in 19th century besides Chinese and Indians?
These tests are very interesting. Mine shows up 4% Asian (3% South Asian, 1% East Asian) which seems to be from Eastern European Roma gypsy.
In your case Jayman… the ancestry it’s totally irrelevant. As a piece of trivia, perhaps. Indeed, it took me more than a few readings before I was curious about Thomas Sowell – the man. Words and ideas speak louder than somebody’s genetic composition.
Well said!
Off topic, but reading your posts on bipartite manorialism (via hbdchick) caused me to wonder – is it basically the Hajnal line countries which are hopelessly soft on the sort of mass immigration which will destroy their high-trust societies? Looking at the Germany vs Visegrad conflict (over whether Hungary et al should accept a portion of the immigrant influx which Merkel invited into Germany), it seems to be.
What of Nordic countries like Iceland and Sweden, which seem even more naive?
Pretty much (Iceland excepted; they are taking immigrants but they are primarily European).
Do you know if you have any Igbo ancestry? You apparently have a lot of West African ancestry, and large numbers of Igbo were historically imported to Jamaica. The Igbo supposedly have one of the highest average IQs of all African ethnic groups, and you presumably have a fairly high IQ.
I do not. The 23andme results don’t break out African populations to that degree. It would seem like a safe bet, though.
Have you browsed any of your raw data? Here’s an article I found on it that I think is interesting: http://slatestarcodex.com/2014/11/12/how-to-use-23andme-irresponsibly/
Cool results! You mentioned in an earlier post that you’re “black by the rules of hypodescent” (i.e. the one drop rule) so are you phenotypically black? If you walked up to me on the street, would I recognize you as black?
I’d say so.
Got my results too this week. Have you noticed the ‘confidence’ slider for the ancestry? What is shown by default is at 50% confidence. If you up that to 90%, mine changed quite a bit…
